SCOUTING FOR GIRLS

TOP modelling scouts from the Miss England competition where in the region on Wednesday, 10 March 2010, looking for contestants for “Miss Southport” to feature in a new TV documentary series.

The spotters will be out across Southport from 9.00am to 6pm and will be stopping glamorous girls at random to ask them to take part in the Miss Southport heat.

The heat is a direct round into the Miss England semi-finals and is being held at the Vincent Hotel on Wednesday, 19 May 2010.

Mark Jones from MDC Events said:- “We have had a great response for the Miss Southport competition already and are confident that the next Miss England could be hiding in the crowds. We’re on a mission to take a look for ourselves and make sure none of the regions most beautiful ladies have slipped through the net.”

Those selected will also be given the chance to feature in a TV Broadcast documentary series about the Miss England competition.

The show will be following the north west heats of the national contest; shadowing and interviewing contestants, filming the final heat in each region and recording the live Miss England finale.

Contestants for Miss Southport have until Friday 12 March to enter via the website on:- miss-southport.co.uk. 

They must be aged between 17 and 24, and must never have been married or have children.

NEXT OF KIN APPEAL - HARRY FLETCHER

LIVERPOOL Coroner's Office are appealing for the next of kin of a man found dead in his city centre home on Thursday, 25 February 2010, to come forward. Harry Fletcher, aged 79, was found dead in his flat in London Road by neighbours. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Mr Fletcher is believed to have been born in Yorkshire but moved to Merseyside at some stage and worked at a chemical factory in Vauxhall, before retiring. The coroner's office is now trying to trace his next of kin. Any next of kin, or anyone who knows of his next of kin, is asked to contact Liverpool Coroners Office on:- 0151 233 4706.

 LIVERPOOL’S COMMUNITY PARENTS PROGRAMME CALLS FOR VOLUNTEERS

THE NSPCC in Liverpool is seeking volunteers who have the time to help make a difference to the lives of families in the Liverpool 8 community.

The NSPCC Hargreaves Centre in Everton, in the heart of the City, runs a Community Parenting Programme in partnership with the Liverpool Women’s Hospital. This programme involves parents supporting other parents who have asked for support to help them care for their children.  The pairing scheme gives the parent another person to turn to for emotional and personal support. The volunteers will work with families in the Liverpool 8 area to help them build on their own strengths and abilities, helping them to care for their children safely.

Anyone interested in becoming a community parenting volunteer is invited to attend an information day on Thursday 25 March 2010, between 10pm to 12noon at the Riverside Learning and Education Centre, Hyslop Street, Toxteth, L8 5UA.

The events will be a chance for the people of Liverpool to find out what it takes to be a community parenting volunteer and to help families in the local community.

This scheme gives them the opportunity to build up a friendship with another parent who they can confide in and who can provide a support network. We want them to be able to relax and express themselves freely to someone who has the time to listen and support them.  We’re interested in hearing from anyone who could spare a minimum of 3 hours per week to support families in the Liverpool area. We’re looking for people with a sensitive and caring attitude towards others, reliable, a good listener and a good team player. In return we offer a free structured training course, which will start on 10 May 2010 and will be part/full time for xxx hours per week. Regular supervisions will also be offered.
