Shooting outside the
Fox and Goose in Southport

SHOTS were fired on Cable Street,
Southport, on Saturday, 13 January 2007. Merseyside
Police are now appealing for information following the
incident which took place outside the Fox and Goose pub
in Southport, in which 2 men were injured. The incident
took place around 11pm. Merseyside Police told us that:-
"A man approached two members of door staff
outside the Fox and Goose Public House on Cable Street,
Southport. He was wearing a balaclava, and had what
appeared to be a hand gun, which was fired towards the
men. The offender then got into a silver Vauxhall Vectra
that drove off from the scene. The car was later found
abandoned close to the Royal Clifton Hotel, on Southport
Promenade. Both victims were taken to hospital. A 31
year old man is suffering from chest injuries and a 20
year old suffering leg and hip injuries. The Vectra car
was seized by police and is undergoing forensic tests.
Also being looked is CCTV footage."

Detective Inspector Richy Carr said,
“We will not tolerate gun crime on our streets. I
urge anyone with information to come forward and help us
find those responsible. The area would have been fairly
busy on a Saturday night and I would urge any witnesses
to the incident to come forward, particularly anyone who
saw the silver Vector and its occupants around the area.
I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the car
being abandoned along the Promenade. Please call us on
0151 777 5 811 or call Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111."
Many at the site told us that
"After phoning we noted a long wait before the ambulance
arrived. "It must have been 15 to 20 minutes."
one of the witnesses told us. Another person at the
scene told us:- "It is shocking that when the
ambulance arrived they could not get access to the road
as it was full of police cars and vans! Also the time it
took for the response by the emergency services was
amazingly poor."
We will invite the emergency services to
comment on this matter and will be featuring audio
interviews with witnesses in next week’s issue, when
facts are clearer.
