Match Reports Week Ending November 5 written By Mike Taylor
Under 10
Town Green A 4 Redgate B 0
In a closely fought 1st half. Both keepers were kept busy with some
testing shots and both sides hitting the post. After a lengthy spell
of possession, Town Green finally took the lead with a superb left
footed shot from Kieron Turner.
After half time Town
Green came out quickly and immediately scored with a great move down
the left hand side’ the ball was blasted into the net by Jack
McGregor. After some good work from midfield, Nathan Peet capped a
fine display scoring Town Green's third. It was again Peet who
provided the pass to Josh Donson, for him to place the ball into the
back of the net for Town Green's 4th goal. Man of the Match was
Nathan Peet. Birkdale A 2 Southport Juniors B 0
In a close game, goals were the only thing missing early on with
missed chances and some fine goalkeeping from both the ‘port goalie
and Griffiths in the Birkdale goal. With half time looming Birkdale
forced a corner and a great cross from Platts was met with a firm
header by Copson. |
In the 2nd half
Southport played some neat football and put Birkdale under pressure
which kept Fletcher and Gaskell busy in the Birkdale defence.
Birkdale rode this pressure well and Bolton and Aindow got to grips
with the midfield again. When Aindow combined with Platts with some
neat footwork Aindow scored Birkdale’s 2nd goal. Southport
were unlucky not to get a consolation goal when they again set siege
to the Birkdale goal forcing more saves from Griffiths. Well
done to both teams the game was played in good spirits. M.O.M
for Birkdale was Aindow.
Birkdale B 1
Southport Juniors A 1
Birkdale and Southport have had some tight games over the last few
years and many have been decided by the odd goal, this game was no
exception as both teams cancelled each other out. The football
played was outstanding at times and a credit to the clubs the
players represented. In the early stages Birkdale looked the most
promising team to score with Joe Cooper testing the Southport back
line who held strong, Jack Bainbridge turning in another solid
performance at the heart of the SFCJ defence. SFCJ got their passing
game going and started to ask questions of the Birkdale defence as
Owen Drummond and Anthony Brown stamped their authority on the game,
as a move involving the 2 saw Sam Johnson drive towards the Birkdale
box and a last gasp challenge lead to Johnson being fouled. Johnson
drove the free kick into the area to the advancing Oliver Cunningham
who coolly slipped the ball into the far side of the net and out of
reach of the Keeper to take his goal tally to 5 for the season for
the central defender. Birkdale immediately replied and took the game
to SFCJ and some great play on the half way line saw Joe Cooper turn
tightly to race clear and push towards the box, as the defence
struggled to get a tackle in Cooper hit a right foot shot across
Callum Jones and inside the far post to level the scores.
The 2nd half was full
of chances for both sides and either team could have took the lead,
from one chance Anthony Brown latched on to a pass from James Smith
to set up a 1-on-1 with the Birkdale keeper Nathan Sutton who
produced the save of the match when he got a hand to a rocket of a
shot from Brown that was destined for the top corner. The final
whistle ended the game and a fair result on the day as neither team
deserved to loose, the supporters of both teams gave the teams a
well deserved round of applause. The game was played in a very
sporting manner and both teams and supporters should be proud of the
respect shown to each other during a very tense afternoon.
92%
OF GRANADA VIEWERS DON’T KNOW WHEN THEY MUST GO DIGITAL
ONLY 8% of
viewers in the Granada TV region can name the date when digital
switchover will take place, new research has found. Every
household in the region will have to ensure all their televisions
are capable of receiving a digital signal when the analogue signal
is switched off locally in autumn 2009.
That is when the Granada region transmitter will cease broadcasting
the older ‘analogue’ television signal and begin transmitting
a high-power digital signal in its place. This will make digital TV
through an aerial (Freeview) available to almost every home.
Digital UK, the independent body leading the UK’s switch to digital
TV, is conducting quarterly research with regulator Ofcom to monitor
awareness of switchover.
The results for July 2006 to September 2006 show that, while knowledge of
the timing of switchover is low in the Granada region, general
awareness in the area that switchover is happening has risen to a
new high of 71%.
Ford Ennals, Chief Executive of Digital UK, said:- “The
encouraging news is that, according to the research, most people
know switchover is coming. Also, 81% of homes in the Granada region
now have digital TV on at least one set. But many people are
unsure when the change will affect them. We expect this to change as
switchover approaches, and we’ll concentrate on communicating the
date to all Granada viewers over the coming months.”
Digital UK has sent switchover information to every household in the
Granada region and will do so again in the year before switchover as
part of its ongoing information and support programme for the
region. Switchover will happen transmitter by transmitter
across the UK, coming to the Granada region in autumn 2009. The
detailed timetable was announced by Digital UK in October 2006.
