Search For A Star 2006
Photos by Patrick Trollope

IT was an exciting time on Thursday, 14 September, as Southport Art Centre played host for yet another year to the North West Regional Final of the British Resorts and Destinations Association's national talent competition, Search for a Star. The event this year was not as big as it has been, with the number of heats down, but the talent was fantastic and made up for the lack of heats and this produced a final far more challenging for contestants. As the competition slogan says:- "See the stars of tomorrow today." All the finalists are well on their way to stardom. At stake this year was, as in other years, the chance to represent the North West in the National Final. This year’s National will be staged in Eastbourne on 25 November 2006. For all who enter, just getting into a heat is a tremendous step forward, but getting into the regional final is a huge leap closer to the bigtime. For the winner it is a massive leap into future glory and a huge honour to perform in the National Finals where hopes are easily dashed and dreams can be just as easily fulfilled. The event was organised and run by ABD Productions and they are now looking at next year’s event. You can find their contact information in our Business Listings.

The finalists, for the 2006 event in Southport, were as follows in running order:-

Jennifer Barkley, Christian Malley, Barry Briercliffe, Becki Bell, Shaun Moran, Wendy Chalke, Shaun Fields, Jeni Scully, Lee Bradbury, Jenuary Woodhead and Katy Tickel.

Starting the night was a very talented 14 year old called Rachael Crow, who is making her own CD which will be on the airwaves very soon. This young lady was a very capable and very entertaining performer, whose name you should all note. By no means an understatement, this girl will make it to the top!

Comparing the night’s acts and proceedings was Norman Thomas from BBC Radio Merseyside's Breakfast Show.

We are pleased to let you know that Jennifer Barkley and Lee Bradbury came joint third wining £200.00 each, then Wendy Chalke came second with £500.00 and representing the North West in the National and winning £1000.00 was the amazing voice of Katy Tickle.

It is sad to see the others go away empty handed as they all did fantastically well. I just hope I can see them again next year and who knows it might be one of them who goes through to the Nationals and beyond.

Good luck Kate and knock them out in Eastbourne...
