24 Hour Yacht Race

2006 West Lancs. Yacht Club 24 Hour Race 2006 took place
over Saturday 9 September and Sunday 10 September 2006.
Running a week early to normal, the race was a massive success.
The High Tide gave the lake some added height and that
meant the dingy craft could manoeuvre far easier.
This year the overall winners were the race charity
team Sail 4 Cancer, who took the top prize for the
event. Since its start back in 1966 the
event has become a classic. No other race exists
like it and it is a truly unique event. If
you have a team and you would like to enter, then you
will be please to know that next years race is planned
for 15 September to 16 September 2007. To apply

This year was plain
sailing, unlike some years. The craft all
had good wind and some capsized, but not as many as
normal, due to the conditions. Race Chairman
Rob Pickering said:- "This year has been far more
social than normal online and on the water.
Team spirits both of and on the water for all teams have
been fantastic and it has been one of the best races for
that reason. Despite a power problem on the
Saturday night, the race has run smoothly and with out
any incidents. We would like to thank every one
for their continued support, with out the helpers
sponsors and the teams we would not have a race."
