Downtown Week 2006 has begun!!!

IT started on 11 June and runs to 18 June 2006. The event is a celebration of Liverpool's Downtown area, the heart of the UK's most exciting city! The event that is now run yearly aims to show the rich mix of art, entertainment and business, as well as the diverse culture Liverpool has to offer, to both locals and visitors to this great city. The week offers all types of events, and one of last year's most popular events is being run again. As part of Downtown Week 2006, Liverpool Vision are organising a walking tour of the historic Ropewalks area. Demand for this walk is extremely high - places are strictly limited. The walk will take place on Tuesday 13 June from Concert Square (Modo).

AFL Architects have arranged a tour of the splendid City Lofts development on Princes Dock... again restricted places are available. Contact 0151 231 6200 or by email steven.unwin@afl-uk.com Steve Unwin to book your place. This tour starts at Carillion's site offices at 2pm on Tuesday 13 June 2006.

Further walks and talks are to take place early evenings, starting from the plateau in front of St George’s Hall and from St John’s Gardens. On this Wednesday, 14 June, commencing at the War Memorial at St George’s Hall (assemble at 1745 for 1800), this tour will be led by Peter Elson Senior Features Writer at the Liverpool Daily Post, Patrick Moran Chairman of the MCS Conservation and Heritage Committee, Robin Riley Chairman of the MCS Public Monuments and Streetscape Committee and Felicity Wren.

'Talk Architecture' is another interesting event to be held from 11am to 12:30pm, at the FACT on Wood Street. 'Talk Architecture' is an open discussion about how the people of Liverpool envisage their city developing over the next ten years. Featuring a panel of key thinkers, John Elcock and Wayne Colquhoun, this event is a participatory dialogue between the panel and members of the public. Other events include BBQs, live music, life drawing, building tours, special offers in some venues across the city and even a film making challenge!
