GIANT Inflatable obstacles, fancy dress, joker cards and lots of foam will be the order of the day as an ‘Its a Knockout’ team challenge event returns to Liverpool later this year.

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, which funds research into a cure for muscle wasting diseases, is again holding this fun-filled day after previous
successful Knockout challenge days in the city over the past 2 years.

Charles Horton, Regional Fundraising Manager for the charity says:- “We need as many teams as possible to enter and raise sponsorship to help us pay for research into a cure for muscle diseases. There are some great games involved in Knockout Challenge and everyone who takes part always has plenty of enjoyment and laughter. A team consists of up to 10 people and can be made up of family and friends, work colleagues or local pub and club teams – in fact anyone who wants a really fun day!”.

This year the Knockout show will have a nursery rhyme theme including games with such intriguing names as ‘Bah Bah Blind Sheep’, ‘Humpty Dumpty’ and ‘This Little Piggy’, all designed with a big emphasis on fun. The event is taking place at Childwall School on Saturday September 16 from 1pm to 5pm. Catering facilities will be available.

PRIME Minister Tony Blair, tough-talking businessman Sir Alan Sugar and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice have all been named as the public figures Northerners think could best handle a crisis, according to in a poll commissioned by the British Red Cross, the country’s leading voluntary crisis response organisation, to mark Red Cross Week.

In the ICM poll conducted last month, the public were asked to name which well-known figure that they thought could best handle a crisis. Of the diverse list of names, Tony Blair came top with 21%, but was closely followed by Sir Alan Sugar with 18% and Condoleezza Rice with 8% of the vote in the North. Dame Ellen MacArthur, Gordon Ramsay, Winston Churchill and Sven Goran Eriksson were also named as some of the best people to have around during a crisis.

Red Cross Week is the annual fundraising and awareness-raising week for the British Red Cross. This year, the charity is asking the British public to help it to be there for people in a crisis, by donating money. The life saving work of the Red Cross is largely funded by the generosity of the British public and the charity aims to raise up to £1million. All money will go towards supporting vulnerable people in crisis, both in the UK and overseas.

Mark Astarita, director of fundraising, British Red Cross said:- “In our poll, the public have nominated people from all walks of life; individuals who have either experienced a crisis or exhibit the determination and resolve that suggests they would cope very well. As the country’s leading voluntary crisis response organisation, helping people to cope in a crisis is precisely what the British Red Cross does everyday of the year.
